Thursday Pistol Skills & Drills

The Thursday afternoon pistol shoots will be led by Rex Roberson, BVSC Pistol Chairman. Rex is also an NRA and USCCA Certified Pistol Instructor and NRA Range Safety Officer.

The weekly events will focus on pistol shooting fundamentals and practical shooting skills.
– Proper shooting stance
– Proper handgun grip
– Target acquisition and sight alignment
– Recoil control
– Target transitions
– Strong and weak hand shooting
– Reloading
– Shooting and moving
– Malfunction clearing
– Drawing from a holster

On ODD numbered weeks we will shoot Steel Challenge. This is Steel Challenge – YouTube
We will shoot 50 – 100 rounds during this session. Due to round count and ammo prices a .22LR pistol is recommended but other centerfire calibers are welcomed. If you don’t own a .22LR pistol we have loaners available for use. We do ask that if you use our guns that you use our ammo. We have 100 round boxes of CCI Mini Mag .22LR for $10.

On EVEN numbered weeks we will shoot some type of IDPA/USPSA/Practical Shooting Stages or Drills. This is USPSA – YouTube
We will shoot around 50 rounds on these nights. Any pistol is welcome but you may need to reload during a stage if your pistol holds less than 10 rounds so bring extra magazines or reloaders if you are shooting a revolver. Also recommended but not required is a holster to draw from and magazine carriers for your belt.

NOTES:
– Eye and hearing protection are required for all shooting events.
– To ensure a safe and fun event we will operate a “Cold” range so please come to the range with your firearms unloaded. Firearms will only be loaded on the firing line when it is your turn to shoot. If you are not holstering your gun please bring it in a case.
– To cover paint for the steel and paper targets there is a $2 fee for BVSC members and guests. All money goes back into the club for range and target maintenance.

If you have any questions please reach out to Rex Roberson @ 303-253-1920 or roberson.rex@gmail.com.
